The Maremma: where the hills overlook
By the sea
It is a placid summer day. The sun’s rays bathe the Tuscan hills overlooking the sea of Castiglion della Pescaia. Immersed in this paradise, Pierangiolo Piccini walks among the vines, letting his steps sink into the warmth of the earth. Suddenly he stops, inflates his lungs with the clear sea air and lets his eyes slide along the rhythmic ups and downs of the rows. In the space of a moment, Pierangiolo’s instincts anticipate agronomic calculations, scanning horizons that only an artist can imagine. Determined to pursue his intuition, Pierangiolo invested in these hills by acquiring Tenuta Moraia, the stroke of genius of a wine master. Years later, his heirs continue to pay homage to their grandfather’s intuition, cultivating a land that today is hailed by all as the new frontier of Tuscan wine.
Caressed by sea breezes, Tenuta Moraia is located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, a stone’s throw from the ancient village of Gavorrano. The influence of the sea, favored by the nearby Gulf of Follonica, mixes with the gentleness of the hills and the generous sunshine of these lands. The estate covers the impressive extension of 160 hectares, 60 of which are vineyards, strictly organic.
Here, the moving sweetness of the Tuscan hills blends with the foam of the waves, in an eternal game of seduction, under the direction of the placid rays of the sun. Even the subsoil reveals the ancient history of this slice of Tuscany, giving its fascinating marine echoes. On the surface, on the other hand, a mantle of blue-gray and red clays, crossed by spotted limestone and limestone conglomerates, creates the premises for an exceptional soil that enhances Sangiovese, revealing all its tannic potential and celebrating its vigorous structure. The rich mosaic of influences and aromatic echoes is completed by other vineyards on less impervious slopes, with a sandy and pebbly character, which delegate the prestigious task of interpreting the terroir to the typical grapes of the great Bordeaux reds.
Lulled by the breath of the sea, the vines grow luxuriantly on the threshold of the woods, along a natural path that connects the Maremma hinterland to the sea. The cool currents that blow from the waves and the abundant rains dilute the heat of the climate, mitigating temperatures and making this patch of land a small jewel of inestimable rarity.
Exceptional climatic peculiarities, unique in the Maremma context, guarantee long and constant ripening, within the framework of lush nature and impressive biodiversity. In the incredible scenery of these hills, bees, olive trees and woods thrive in harmony; while crops ordered by the hand of man and portions of wild territory are interspersed with rows of vines that enjoy the rich ecosystem. In this corner of Tuscany, nature has indulged itself, creating a precious kaleidoscope.

The new frontiers
of Tuscan wine
The company’s wines have the ambitious goal of reinterpreting tradition in a modern way, while preserving the elegance typical of the great wines of the Tuscan coast. Each bottle of Tenuta Moraia is presented as a faithful expression of the territory, with the intention of disseminating the excellence of this wine region. The estate’s hills offer contemporary and vibrant wines, where the charm of their homeland boils. Constant attention to quality is an essential dogma; However, nothing would be possible without the generosity of the soil, which gives our winegrowers a raw material of rare goodness.
From this intertwining are born the renowned Supertuscans of the estate, including the iconic Perpiero, a delicate tribute of the fifth generation to grandfather Pierangolo, which closes – even symbolically – a circle that has its roots in the family history and in the continuous desire to cultivate the future of Italian wine.
